Auction benefitting NAHJ Rubén Salazar fund raises $7,000 so far
The National Association of Hispanic Journalists organized a silent auction during its 40th anniversary convention in Hollywood to raise money for the Rubén Salazar Scholarship Fund, which has helped Latino student journalists pay for school or training since 1986.
This year’s auction included 66 different items with all proceeds going directly to the fund.
Silent auction coordinator Laura Garcia said they had raised $7,000 in the first days of the convention. But several other items remained up for grabs as the convention came to an end.
Rubén Salazar was a celebrated Mexican-American journalist who worked as a columnist for the Los Angeles Times and as a news director for television station KMEX in Los Angeles.
