Meet the 2024 NAHJ Hall of Fame inductees
The National Association of Hispanic Journalists inducted Ingrid Ciprián-Matthews, John Quiñones, Rafael Prieto Zartha and Steve Padilla into the Hall of Fame Saturday.
This award recognizes individuals who have upheld NAHJ’s mission to expand the number of Latinos in newsrooms and improve coverage of Latino communities, according to the organization.
Ciprián-Matthews is a Dominican journalist and television producer who started her career as a general assignment reporter for “Enfoque Nacional.” In 2023, she became the first Latina president of CBS News and the second woman to hold this role in the company’s history. The Emmy winner said earlier this week she is stepping down from the role.
Quiñones, a familiar face to many, is the host of “What would you do?” and an ABC News correspondent for “20/20.” Quiñones is also the one of the authors of “One Year in Uvalde: A story of Hope and Resilience,” which was inspired by a full year of coverage in Uvalde, Texas after a mass shooting at an elementary school. His bilingualism and cultural competency have helped him cover local and international news.
Prieto Zartha is a founding member of NAHJ. Originally from Colombia, the nationally awarded journalist is known for his career in Spanish-language media and cultural activism. Prieto Zartha is the co-founder of several cultural organizations such as Fiestas Patrias y Tradiciones de Charlotte and Líderes Colombianos en Charlotte.
Steve Padilla is an editor for Los Angeles Times. He possesses a passion for writing and helping reporters craft better stories. Padilla is a dedicated reader of the Latino Reporter and NAHJ member. He has edited a wide variety of topics, including presidential politics, higher education and religion, according to Los Angeles Times.
The Hall of Fame Gala brought together NAHJ student chapter members, Latino Reporter staff and journalists from across the country. After 23 continuous years of Hall of Fame inductees, the organization will continue the legacy at next year’s conference in Chicago.
