New Orleans is known for its French influence. But its Spanish roots hide in plain sight
New Orleans is widely known for its French and African roots, but its Spanish past is just as significant. Historian and tour guide Rafael Delgadillo said that in 1763, France, fearing it would lose the territory to England, agreed to transfer New Orleans to Spain.
Today, the city’s Spanish history remains hidden in plain sight.
